COCO MIC Talks 02: Music and Culture of COS

We are excited to announce COCO MIC Talks 02 which will be hosted by The Modbo. We have some amazing talent speaking to us on the music/local music scene and how it has and does shape our community culture. Guest speakers this round are Heather Browne of Fuel/Friends Music Blog, Idris Goodwin, a CC Professor who teaches writing and Hip Hop aesthetics, Brett Andrus, owner of The Modbo and painter extraordinaire, and Daniel James Eaton of Briffaut will end the night storytelling and music playing. 

Heather Browne has written the Fuel/Friends Music Blog ( since November of 2005 from her Colorado Springs home, and was named in the Gazette's "Best Of The Springs 2014" edition as a "Music Mover and Shaker." Springing from the blog, she also curates a series of house concerts, and also a series of chapel session recordings of bands playing private concerts in the Shove Chapel at Colorado College. Heather is now also half of the music-booking duo for the restored Ivywild School in downtown Colorado Springs, and her day job is coordinating international study experiences for Colorado College students.

Idris Goodwin is a playwright, spoken word performer and essayist. He is the author of the award winning and widely produced play How We Got On (Playscripts, 2013)  and the pushcart nominated essay collection These Are The Breaks (Write Bloody, 2011).  He’s performed on HBO, The Discovery Channel, Sesame Street and National Public Radio. His two latest plays And in this corner….Cassius Clay and This is Modern Art (co-written with poet Kevin Coval) will have world premiere productions in 2015  . Idris teaches performance writing and Hip Hop aesthetics at Colorado College.

Colorado native, Brett Andrus studied painting and art history at the Savannah School of Art and Design before returning home to Colorado in 2001.  Andrus divides his time between a career in the financial industry, co-ownership (with his wonderful wife Lauren) of the award-winning art galleries The Modbo and S.P.Q.R., directing and teaching at the newly formed ModboCo School of Art at Ivywild, working as a musician (in projects that include Waterbear, The Men of Deep Throat, Team Laser Wolf, and Headhum), and producing as a disciplined artist.  Over the last fifteen years, Andrus has exhibited his work in Santa Fe, Denver, Atlanta, New York City, New Orleans, Trinidad and Colorado Springs.



Daniel James Eaton is a Singer Songwriter from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has written over 400 songs, getting a large boost from writing/publishing/recording a song everyday for the year of 2012. He plays as a solo act offering meditative, peaceful sounds with deeply philosophical messages that lie within his prose, metaphor, analogy and prudence. He is also in a 4 piece band called Briffaut.
